There's been a delightful and very summery trailer that's been circulating the cinemas with Jean Reno drinking Estrella. Clearing an advert for the brew, but it's something more. It's actually a 16minute short film for what purpose other than to promote Estrella. But no, it's actually does more than that and yes, not only does it promote the Spanish lager brand. It promotes a good life message that the brand supports itself.
Highly acclaimed Spanish director, Alberto Rodríguez is at the helm with Jean Reno taking lead as a French actor, a supposed pseudonym Jean-Pierre Bertrand as when you see Reno playing a famous French actor, you automatically see him as himself. However, I doubt very much it's a true representation of his true self as he's miserable, cynical, rude and complete lack of empathy.
During the filming of his James Bond'esque movie he's given a tour of the Spanish coastal town by the lovely, Beautiful Laia Costa. Herself being fun-loving, polite and generous kind who looks to Jean-Pierre in admiration. Obviously there's a gently clash of personalities over the few days they share together.
Feels like the type of film I would watch on an aeroplane, but I can't explain why that is. No I can. It's because it has that strong flavour of the Mediterranean, that taste of holiday summer air. It's about enjoying the small pleasures in life, emphasising the importance of the little things, taking the time to appreciate those small details that can so easily go unnoticed.
It makes it point very clear and proves to be more than just a long advertising campaign for Estrella. Does it make me want to have an Estrella? Damm right it does. It's loaded with very obvious product placement, but if is the core values of the brand than I'm all for it and the marketing people behind this deserve a lifelong supply.
Plus there's a nice bonus of finishing with a song from Ramon Mirabet "Those Little Things" that's so very fitting for the film. A delicate and pretty short, Rodríguez gives us a delicious and refreshing little film. Now where's my pint of Estrella?
