Everybody Wants Some!! Review

A follow on from the famed Dazed and Confused (1993) Richard Linklater actually states that this is a direct sequel from his film Boyhood (2014) making this possibly a trilogy.

This one spending a weekend with a college baseball team at the beginning of the eighties. It's colourful as the eighties was and is full of interesting characters and if there's one thing Linklater does so well, it's the art of conversation. Like his previous works, the Before Sunset trilogy, It's superbly scripted and well performed by the large cast that are notably small names. No big Hollywood pitchers here.

The story seems centred around Glee's Blake Jenner character Jake, as he becomes a freshman and moves into the baseball house meeting a multitude of strong characters. They're not really stereotypical, just want you might expect to find at a typical US college.

Characters like Glen Powell's Finn and Tyler Hoechlin's Mac form great bases among others like Roper, Jay, Willoughby, Plumber and Dale. The audience gets a fly-on-the-wall perspective of the banter, jesting and points of view between them all.

It's like a Softer-core Porky's with girls, parties, drugs, booze and surprisingly, some baseball. The guys go from bar to bar offering different samples of eighties pop culture accompanied with an awesome soundtrack.

It's not going to be everyone cup of tea but for what it is, it's entertaining and doesn't try to be anything spectacular but a good pictorial of a time of that era.
